I like to collect things as I walk; tiny seeds that have fallen from trees, shreds of madrone bark, leaves, or a piece of decaying bone. These treasures become the departure points for my paintings, drawings and monotypes. (please scroll down for more information)
I begin by employing a drawing process called blind contour. This process involves moving the drawing implement in concert with the eyes as they follow the edges or details of the object - without looking at the paper. In this way, a deep and uncensored seeing can occur. Working in this way allows me the freedom to have an intimate conversation with nature without having to create an accurate representation of it. My inner being becomes part of the subject as I recognize my own seasons and cycles reflected in the natural world.
The pieces I've posted here are a small sampling of this exploration, I invite you to return to see see more of this work.
